More and more often when we talk about sea and beaches we hear about the Blue Flag. What does it mean? This is a recognition that is given to Italian beaches according to some specific criteria. It was awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (#FEE) which for over thirty years has aimed to reward sustainable tourism, waste management, enhancement of naturalistic areas, purification efficiency and in particular quality of the waters.
Puglia for the year 2021 was positioned one step away from the podium reaching the fourth position in the whole country with 15 tourist destinations and beaches that can wave the coveted #BlueFlag. Two more blue flags than last year, thus proving to be a true paradise among clear waters, scents of the Mediterranean scrub and fine sand.
To plan your next vacation, I’d say the following list is worth reading:
- Polignano a Mare, province of Bari. Crystalline, transparent sea made up of imposing stacks that offer picturesque scenery.
- Margherita di Savoia, province of Barletta, Andria, Trani. Recognized for its impressive expanses of salt, as well as a symbol of the Apulian town.
- Ostuni, Carovigno and Fasano, province of Brindisi. The three locations characterised, par excellence, by the alternation of sandy coves and rocky coasts.
- Peschici and the Tremiti Islands, province of Foggia. The flagships of the whole Gargano, whose beauty can be admired from any angle.
- Otranto, Castro and Melendugno, province of Lecce. Excellent if you are looking for an oasis of peace and tranquility.
- Castellaneta, Maruggio and Ginosa, province of Taranto. Among the most welcoming coastal resorts, immersed in large pine forests and crystal clear sea.
What can I say, there’s a lot to see!
